I have 2 sets of 73-74 bucket seats, both in good shape but Black, I was toying with the idea of having one set redone in Green so I could put them in my 73 Grabber, But... I've always liked the 71-72 bucket seat better.
This is where either Ive had too much to drink or I'm just nuts....I want to know if anyone knows if the seat frame is any different form 72 to 73?? Does anyone have an old seat that they could tear down? I'll rip one of mine apart and compare them...because I figured if there the same..whats stopping anyone from ordering a new set of Mustang seat covers and foam, and making the 73-74 style seats into 71-72?? does that make sense?

If they are the low back bucket seats like the LDOs, I believe the frame may bolt onto the high back seats but I'm pretty sure they are shorter because the LOD seats have a much thicker bottom cushion.

Different patterns and dfferent padding from Mustang to Maverick, but the materials and colors are the same, or close. If you look at a high back bucket seat in a 72 Grabber, it looks close to a 72 Mustang seat, but 73 Maverick to 73 Mustang look alot different, alot more padding in the Maverick, the top of the seat looks alot different.
I'll try to find some pics.

I should have been more clear, I'm thinking about the high back bucket seats, I always forget about the LDO seats for some reason.

    Dave-
I have a set of the orange seats (in black) that were factory in my '74 GT. I also have a set of '72/'73 Mach I seats that I will be putting in the '69 some day. I believe the frame is the same for both. The seat bun is definitely different. I agree that the earlier than '73 Mav/Comet high back buckets look identical to the '71-'73 Mustang except for the upholstery. I think the frame is also used in the '69/'70 Mustang high back seats as well-Also used in the Shelby.

Maybe someone has taken them down to compare? I know the high back bucket buns for '69-'73 Mustangs are available reproduction. My green Mach I seats are in decent shape cushion wise, so I don't think that I will need new buns.

You can buy everything for Mustang seats, and thats what got me thinking about it, I'm going to rip one of my seats apart this afternoon, I want to see what the frame looks like, last month in Mustang Monthly there was an artical about redoing Mustang seats, and some good pic's to compare them to.

I'm all ears. I also have a set of the later high back buckets that need to be recovered.

Well, I stripped a seat yesterday, and man that was pretty gross...I never thought so many mice could live in one seat, I hope I don't get the plauge, anyways it looks the same as the Mustang seat frame shown in Mustang Monthly, the only thing that is different, is the springs for the seatback, on the Maverick they are molded into the foam, and it looks like the Mustang foam sits on the springs, I pulled off whatever foam was left and it looks close.
I found a supplier that I've dealt with, and they can order kits from TMI Products, these are the manufacturers for places like NDP, and you can order custom colors or colors from other year Mustangs, TMI is sending my some samples, so we'll see what happens.
I'll be happy if I can have 71-73 Mustang seats in Ivy to match the interior of my 73, much better than the big puffy bench :)
    (I'll post some pics later)

71/72 Maverick buckets are identical to 71/73 Mustang buckets ... I have even interchanged the backs and bases myself. The foam is also identical. If the 73/74 bucket frames don't look exactly the same a 71/72 bucket frames then the foam is not interchangeable.

I'll take a picture, its easier to understand when you see it. The frames are the same in the 73/74 seats as the 71/72, it's just the spring support in the seat back that differs from what I can tell, the springs sorta clip in, so it's an easy thing to change.
