Hey everyone so the 73 mav gave out on me on my trip to Florida from virginia. So long story short I bent a connecting rod and I'm just trying to figure out what to do next it's a 6cylinder 250 and idk if I should rebuild or get a salvage engine. A lot of people say I should just switch over to a 302 but I know there would be a little more work into that and I'm not made of money but I'm just looking for some opinions on what I should do any this helps and thanks

Find another used motor and drop it in there.....cheaper in the long run.

What Craig said, quickest and easiest solution.

So, how did you bend a connecting rod?

Sorry you killed the motor. Hope you kept that rod for a nice piece of garage art.

Agreed .... maybe a board member or someone doing an early Mustang has a six that is in good shape.

A cheap way to get into a decent V8 is 1996- early 1997 Ford Explorer/Mercury Mountaineer with the GT 40 heads. (careful to not get the ones just after that ... "GT 40 P"... exhaust is a problem). Still means you would need frame mounts, exhaust, carb/manifold, and probably a flexplate. When you start changing components it starts to add up.

No early Mustangs came with 250, would have to be 1969-1973... The 250 was also used in '69-'73 Fairlane/Torino & Montego but rather rare in '72 & '73... Most common useage of 250 was '75-'80 Granada & Monarch and probably '73/'74 to '77 Mav/Comet...

There are several differences in 170/200 vs 250, bell housing patterns are different, plus is wider and taller... Means transmissions won't directly interchange, motor mount brackets are different, exhaust may or may not fit without modification etc...
