Can someone tell ne how to wire my alternater and disconect switch at the back of the car so it kills the motor when it is switched off?
Is your battery in the trunk and do you mean the type of disconnect switch that is required by most drag rac ing tracks?? If so, you find a good place to mount the disconnect switch, or get the type that has a push-rod that extends out the back of the car. Run the hot wire (preferrably 1 gauge battery cable) off of the battery to the switch and then from the switch up to the starter selonoid. If your battery is not in the trunk you should probably move it, I have seen people put the switch up under the fender but most drag strips don't like that.....
I all ready have the switch mounted with the battery in the trunk. What I'm wanting to know is how do you wire up the alternator so when you turn the power switch off it kills the car per N.H.R.A. rules?
well......if you need the alt.... If all it needs to do is kill the motor........would'nt it be easier to run the ignition power wire through it?? on my MSD there is the little wire that runs through the ignition switch you could run it to the disconect switch instead......
you need a special switch.. moroso makes one part number 74102. it has a total of 4 prongs on it... you can't use one with just the two prongs. i'll see if i can take a picture of it later on to show you.
The MSD set up is the easyway out just kills the ign. box and with much smaller gauge wire too.otherwise id run the alt wire through switch with the batt. pos.
turn me off You hook the Alt output to the battery side of the switch. Run a seperate wire 10 gauge, to the switch. That way the ignition doesn't run off the Alt.
turn me off It's not just for the ignition it's also for electric fuel pumps. Or I use a oil pressure switch for mine.
i run a battery in the trunk with a cut off switch. i also have a one wire alternator with a 10 ga. wire running to the positive side of the switch. passes nhra tech 2X a month.
I would like to put a kill switch on my maverick….but don’t want to relocate my battery… and I don’t want to run thick wire into the cab… can I attach a switch to my battery feed clip on my coil… thus disengaging the coil… and using a much smaller wire?
Look under usefull topics forum. Ray did an incredible job of explaining what you are asking.. Scotty P
because if you do that you have to charge the batteries between rounds. i run an msd ignition, electric fuel pump, fan, water pump motor, etc. a lot of guys run a lot more electronic stuff. i run 2 optima batteries in the trunk and a 1 wire alternator. before going to two batteries i i still charged the battery between rounds. life at the track has gotten so much easier since then.
