Ok I have been reading alot about balancing of the late model 5.0 engine. I have a Late Model 5.0 engine a c4 trans with the bellhousing to fit the 5.0. now the engine still has the flywheel and stuff that came stock with it. Wouldn't it already be balanced? or will the 5.0 flywheel not fit into the c4 bellhousing correctly.
Having the year of the 5.0 would help answer you question as it is posed but I will inject one thought: The factory does not dynamically balance engines. They use components that are within a range of balance and never spin-test the assembly. If you want an engine that is balanced and with rev faster using less HP to get it to an RPM and keep it there then dis-assemble the engine and have the entire reciprocating and rotating assembly balanced statically and dynamically.
Depends on which bellhousing you have there. It would have to be a big bell C-4 to work.(164 tooth) Ford never made a 157 tooth 50 oz/in flexplate which is what you'd have to use with the small bell C-4. The 157 tooth , 50 oz flexplates are an aftermarket only item. It will be balanced for most purposes just in using off the shelf parts. It won't be perfect, but it'll work.
I was told once by a very good machinest that youre wasting money balancing a ford unless you modify something in the assembly. So unless youre polishing the rods or something dont bother.
Thank You for the answers I have gotten ahold of the guy who is giving me the motor and is throwing in the aod tranny and starter. Nice!!
Polishing the rods or even fly cutting the piston valve reliefs won't remove enough material to matter.
