Left Thursday around 11am. Went to Dan's home in Quincy. We got up Saturday morning and drove down to St Louis area to pick up the 4 door. Back to Dans home. Had time so we got the car running. Seems to run pretty good. Had not been started in over 10 years. Left Dans Saturday evening. Got to Joe's place Sunday morning. Spent about 4 hours there, Joe got me a great deal on rotors and calipers. Dropped off the transmission and picked up 2 roller engines that Joe gave me as well as a bunch of other parts. Left Joes around 1 pm and got home around 8 pm. Decided I needed another day off so am playing hooky today. Had a great time with great people!!! Thanks all!! 2143.3 Miles $610.47 Fuel 134.95 Gallons 15.88 MPG
Out of curiosity, what type of 4 door did you make that long trip to buy? Glad you had no problems. It's always good to be able to run into friends on the way. Jim
Wow That Fuel is awesome,,, That Tow truck only gets 10 miles to the gallon,, But I know what you must be feeling today,, I got in Saturday Morning at 3am and I was absolutely wiped out,, Yesterday After Dennis left I did a few things and convinced my self to start a relationship with my Favorate chair,, Takes a day or so to get Motivated,,, Lmao When I run down to see Ray,, I am going to pace my self with more Time,, and actually get to see the insides of my Eyelids,, for atleast 8 hours a day,,, Dennis Thank you again,, The parts you brought will bring me closer to getting my Stallion done,, That 4 door is a very sweet car you had picked up,, I was Hoping Dan was going to send That sweet Stallion up to me and save me a ton of work ,,,, It would have looked very good sitting in my drive way,,, ,, We enjoyed having you up here,, When we build the new Garage I am planning on a small Miny meet as a Garage warming get together,, We have a huge Parking lot next to me for the cars,, and it would be great to get a chance to meet more of the Maverick/Comet comunity,, I will keep every one posted on whats going on here,,
The 4 door is a 72 model with LDO option, factory air, power steering, automatic, and 200 cu six. IT was located in Wentzville, MO. The lady, Sue, said her mother bought the car when it was 2 years old. It had been garage kept ever since she owned it. Her mother named it Maggie and Sue insisted Dan and I refer to the car as such while we were there. Although I tend to give cars labels rather than names, I am having a Missouri plate made with "Maggie" on it and will run that on the front. It has almost zero rust, but it has been banged up and in at least 1 accident. The grill is not correct for an LDO, IT should be a chromed lighted grill. Since I have 3 NOS ones, thats not a problem. Also, the bumper guards are missing on the front. I have a set of them with the black rubber strips. The strips are supposed to be green like the vinyl roof. If anyone has a set of bumper guards with the green vinyl, or any color since I can dye them, please let me know. Still, overall, it is in pretty nice shape. The interior is super nice. My plans are to get it streetable and not much else for now. After my Comet is done, I will probably do a quick restore on this one since it will not take much time or money. I will convert it to power disc brakes, convert to Sanden compressor and get the air working. Then do a repaint and a new vinyl roof. Will be a really nice car then. I need a drivers side LDO fender trim and a drivers side rear quarter LDO trim for a 4 door. Color is not important as long as the stainless part is good. Here is some pictures, enjoy.
Interesting details about the 1972 LDO cars: 1. They had Grabber lights in the grill, as well as the Grabber light switch as you can see mounted under the dash. 2. With the LDO wood "look" panel mounted on the dash, the seat belt warning light had to be mounted under the dash next to the Grabber light switch. the 1972 LDO is the ONLY Maverick that featured this.
That's in pretty good shape. Congratulations. I guess 4 dr. cars are the in thing now. If I could find one in nice condition around me, I think I could convince the wife we needed it.
Dennis,, The LDO chrome on the Comet fender was damaged,, I was hoping I had you covered ,,,, I am going to look at a 72 LDO 2 door with a V8 this week,, the Body is rough but Chrome was said to be almost perfect,, the car was a sitter that rusted away,, So If it has what you need ,,, I will get it off and send you all of it,, I have no use for the LDO Chrome and fender Moldings,, I am trying to find out if this car is a standard or Automatic as well,, So far the plan is to part it out,, I have said that about 9 times previous,,, Lmao and have 9 Build projects,,,
Wentzville is about 45 minutes from me. Looks like a nice car. It's been sitting for a while as it still has the Red license plates which were last used in the mid 90's.
