So I'm restoring a 66 mustang rear end, and on one side, the axle bearing was rusted. There wasn't alot of rust, but enough to make pulling it out an absolute pain. I was wondering, if there's nothing wrong with the bearing itself, if it was fine to just lube up and stuff back in, seeing how it does the job and i'm on a budget, or to replace the bearing? The shaft and everything else internal is spotless, the only part rusted is the outer side of the bearing... which doesn't rotate.

    thanks guys

Easy to replace down the road if need be. If it isn't actualy bad then the seal is what I would be replacing. Your call..

as long as the bearing rotates smoothly you should be fine reusing it. you cant pack the bearing. its sealed. i will wire wheel a rusty bearing then put a light coat of anitsize on it so it wont rust again.

Yeah, That's what I was thinking about doing. Just getting most of the rust out, a light coat then dropping it back in. I just wasn't sure if that was frowned upon haha. Alright, looks like I found my answer. Thanks guys!
