Well...I got it. When I pulled into the yard I could see the entire car before I got of my truck.....I just about turned around and left...the body was in such poor shape. Im glad I didnt. The floor pan on the drivers side is completely gone, fist size holes in the quarter panels and a hole in one of the rocker panels. Fortunately I brought my son who is a fairly good body man and he said we would just replace the panels with new and weld new steel in where we needed to. Why im glad we didnt leave is the Engine. Ive never heard a sweeter sound from an Engine in my life. It has a cam in it and roller rocker valves and runs like a scalded ape. I was shocked to see the roller rockers when I pulled the valve covers. The entire engine compartment is in fair condition... the transmission shifts out like a champ and the differential on the rear end is a big as a basketball..I suspect a 9" from a Lincoln although I dont know how to confirm that. Oh, and the trunk is in excellent shape with some minor suface rust. Its gonna take awhile to get her back in her glory but I think it can be done. Some links to to a good parts supplier would be greatly appreciated. Ive got some pics I can post if someone can give a qwik lesson I tried attaching a few pictures and it said it was too big...so I tried attaching one picture...still too big ...so not sure what to do now.
How about this for a cost effective and easier option.....swap everything over to a rust free Maverick. You have the motor, now you just need the "body". With that much rust, even with a realitive doing the work for you, it is going to be expensive. Just my thoughts.....
As it turns out the more I get into the car the more sense Craigs suggestion makes. I found a 70 model 2 door with the front end wrecked at a good price ( apparently). The front quarter panels, bumper and hood off the 73 are in good shape. My question is are there any inherent problems when taking these parts off a 73 and putting them on a 70. Also the 70 has a 6 cylinder in it and I want to drop the engine and drive train from the 73 in it. (302-C6 and 9" rear end) Thoughts suggestions and comments will be greatly appreciated. Thx, Rick P.S. If I buy this car I will have a 6 cylinder with automatic and rear end for sale with 57,000 miles on it if anyone is interested
Im Still trying to find out who this guy is .Bet he lives right down the road and i never knew it..... Falling Waters Wv
I would be interested in seeing pics. You need to open the pic in a program such as microsoft photo editor (free on any windows office disk) then choose image, resize, and make it smaller, it should then load, if it doesn't, make it even smaller. Still have probs? Email me the pic and I will take care of it for you.
Thx for all the help guys. If anyone saw the White 1970 Maverick with 57000 miles on it on EBAY that was wrecked, I went and got it today. All I can say is incredible, when we got there we pulled the bumper out and straightened the fan blade ( the radiator was smashed) I got in and she fired on the third try( it had benn sittin since July) and I drove it on the hauler. The Air Filter can label says its a 200 cid with 120 HP. The engine is very strong but of course I couldnt run it out with no water. The silver factory sticker on the valve cover also says 200 cid. Other than the hood ,quarter panel ,valence grill and radiator being damaged from the accident the car is in fantastic condition. I cant explain in words how good the car looks...I got to get some pics posted for all to see. All the parts I need for the car I can pull from the" Molly" it will be the donor car now. Im gonna have alot of parts left off the Molly not to mention the I6, transmission, and rear end. If anyone can use anything...let me know Im not lookin to make a profit on anything just cover shipping and whatever its worth to ya. Again...thx for all the help with all my questions...Im sure I'll have a million more as time goes on. Oh...and Stefan you could eat off the trunk its so clean...pull the original trunk mat back and the gas tank shines....the bottom of the floor panels are the same...the carpet has been covered by a solid one piece mat for 30 years. Still has the original goodyear spare tire and chrome 4 way lug wrench bolted down....incredible. :bananaman Thx, Rick
oh yeah You got to love it when a plan comes together!! Now with a little parts swapping and elbow grease we will have a nother SWEET Maverick on the street. :bananaman Good luck riporter with everything, but I wouldn't bet on 160MHP Terry Gates AKA Bossmav
I want this car to be the proverbial : "Wolf in Sheeps clothing" I hate the idea of changing anything on the inside, those blue plaid vinyl seats are awesome...hehe. I have the Grabber hood to put on it. The car is the original White paint...is there a way other than a good waxing and buffing to bring out the original shine...rubbing compound maybe? Ive heard "wet" sanding does a good job, but I cringe at the thought. Maybe some black Grabber decals if I can find a kit. Thx Rick
