Greetings all, i'm currently rebuilding my maverick w/ 302 and was wondering if any of you know a place to buy a good aluminum radiator. My climate tends to top over 105 degrees, and i need more cooling power than the stock radiator. Thanks.

    hot & bothered

try one of the places that make them for "desert cooling" systems. Yellow pages on Yahoo will help. Look for them in the Phoneix area.

I used a Griffin radiator measuring 19" x 26"......it's a universal fit for fords.....I had to do some very slight trimming around the radiator opening, took about 30 min. w/ a cut off wheel. It fit great after that with some quick mounting tricks.....I could get you some pictures if you are interested.....it cools my 347 stroker in the summer very well....180 deg. thermostat and it never gets over 190 in the summer in traffic. The electric fan hardly ever comes on......

    hope this helps.....

I put a Howe aluminum cross-flow unit in mine. Some of the best prices I found are at www.performancebodies.com. Think I paid about $185 and it dropped right in.

    The Howe Radiator...

    Hey there,

I'm having cooling issues too. I was wondering which Howe radiator you got (the dimensions) and the mounting particulars.

I was also wondering if you had an auto or manual.

    Yours,
    Atzy.

    Howe radiator

I am using the 19 x 22 inch. I have a manual trans. My '70 has the crossmember just 3" behind the radiator support in the area where the side tanks are. I'm not sure if later Mavs are the same. So the 3" inch thick radiator just fits between the radiator support and the crossmember and sits on the bottom flange of the crossmember. I put some rubber pads between the tanks and the car's sheetmetal to prevent rubbing, vibration, etc. the top mounting flange of the radiator is bolted to the support with two 5/16" bolts.

    Cool...litereally.

Thank you very much. I'll go look more closely at mine now. This may just be the solution I'm looking for.

    Yours,
    Atzy.

    thanks for the info!

Thanks for the info on that website with the aluminum radiators. It would probably run me about $170 to redo my old one, so i figured why not get a better one. I was wondering, did you have to cut, alter, or modiy anything to get the aluminum unit in? or was it the same size as the original? Also, how many rows does it have. Thanks Again.

No cutting or trimming was required. The sheetmetal at the two mounting holes on the driver's side of the radiator support had to be flattened to allow the new radiator to fit flush to the support. There are two rows of one inch tubes so the core is two inches thick and the side tanks are three inches.

    Just Wondering...

I'm just wondering, did the Howe radiator you bought come with mounting brackets? How were you able to mount it? The picture on the performance bodies website doesn't show any, and the tanks on my original are on the top and bottom. I've tried calling but have never gotten through. Also do you know what the difference is between Griffin and Howe, there's only a $10 difference between them. Thanks again, i'm very new at this.

    Yeah, what he said...

    I'm curious too...
