Alum Rad & Thermostat

    I have a new Champion radiator in my Comet and running a new 180 stat. I have a Jegs elec fan control 195on/170off. I was driving the car today in 50-55 degrees temps and runs 180 as long as Im moving. I wanted to see what idling temps I wud get idling abt 10-15mins and I got to 230 and seen enough- I shut it down. I have a 16in fan mounted on the radiator.
    I think I may have to go to a 160 stat. The fan control specifies a 180 stat. I have to make a change B4 the wx gets hot - for sure.


    Does anyone else have this issue?

    air pocket, pull the radiator cap of and let it run for a half an hour.

    the fan is not enough. get a tauras fan out of the salvage yard. they have a shoud that fits over the whole rad core and will cool the the radiator when your standing still.

    Changing the thermostat will not make it run cooler at an idle - like they said above - you need more fan to move more air through the radiator.

    OK. I thought abt the stat comment after I made the thread and realized it wud'nt make any difference.
    Fan Shroud? Im going to look into the Tarus fan or fab a shroud frm sheet metal I hve laying arnd. As I take a gud look at the pix I attached here I see I have a lot of core not having air pulled through by the fan.
