Hey all, My 76 Maverick started dying, thought it was the battery, replaced it - no luck. Had alternator tested at local Advanced Auto - they said it was ok, so threw in a Voltage regulator - no luck. Tried new solenoid - no luck. Current symptoms - alternator light still on with all the new parts - and doesn't seem to be charging battery. If motor is revved up to high RPM's, alternator light goes out... can't be sure if battery getting charge or not, it DOES seem to be holding at approx. 12.30 volts. Is this correct for functioning alternator/charging system? Is there a "reset" for alternator light? Driving me buggy, any help appreciated. Replies off list to - vmsmith45@yahoo.com Thanks, Mark
I went through 3 different regulators before I found one that charged at low rpm. I got the 3rd regulator at Napa
Thanks Will keep fingers crossed to find the original one and see if that functions.....appreciate the response. Mark
Check the wiring for a ground or something. Specifically the one going to the light on the dash. Lime green striped. I gave up and installed a Chevy alternator and have never looked back.
