I was looking in Auto Krafters and they have a nice chrome alternator with the regulator built in so you on;y have one wire going to the battery.

Anyone ever try this? Is it hard to set up, or do you just cut out all the tires going to the box on the fender?

    Thanks for the help!

    Steve

Hi Steve - do a search under one wire conversion. We have had a half dozen really good discussions on this topic. Should answer everything you wanted to know.

the unit is grounded through the body, I believe, we changed our F 100s over to one wire already, I haven't yet, I have 2 good alt. for my car, but when the v8 goes in, well, that's a different story.

ok, I just spent a decent amount of time searching and find nothing that helps.

All I wanna know is what do I do with the 2 wires that come out of the regulator and go into the engine wiring harness. Can I just cut them?

Make sure you have a ground strap from your engine to the frame of the car. Run a new charge wire from the new alternator to the battery. You can remove the existing regulator and wiring harness or simply tape up the ends of the wires.

i'd tape up the ends at least until everything is working ok. i put the 1 wire on my maverick and just ran the wire to the switch in the trunk, which is just like running it to the solenoid. works great. i bought mine from summit. might check their prices first. :)

    I'd tape them up.

Who knows you might need them someday. I have some of that 'you might need that someday stuff'.:bananaman
