Does anybody know what kind of alternator my 73 Maverick 250 CI is? 2 pulley or 1, and how tricky are installing ignition switches? Could I do it with no experience? And can somebody look at the autozone list of both items and tell me which ones would fit?

1 or 2 pulley is easy, how many belts are on the alt? That's your answer. Ign switch isn't that hard, it is on the top of the column. Why do you think you need a switch?

If it is stock you have a one pulley alternator. The "key" part of the switch is at the top of the column but the electrical part (rod-opperated) is at the bottom of the column.

My 250 had a two pulley alt, but it was factory air, that's why you need to count the belts on the alt.

You can change the alt pulley to the one you need. When you get your alt just have them swap it from your old one. The ignition switch, the actual electrical part, takes some contortionist moves to do,but it's pretty simple. The "key" part itself is more difficult. You have to remove the steering wheel with a "puller". You can usually rent this tool from the parts store very reasonably.:)
