So I replaced my inner and outer tie rods and lower control arms the other day and changed over to some poly swaybar link bushings,(you know, those "Energy Suspension" ones they sell at parts stores.) I messed around with the camber(?) alignment bolts at the point the control arms bolt to the frame and got the tie rods to about the same adjustment as the old set were(adjusting toe, if I'm not mistaken..) Though I noticed the passenger side wheel is turned a little more inward than usual.. I took the car for a test drive and it sounds like the front tires are screeching after about 30 or so mph.. Would this be considered an issue with toe angle? I know I have to get it aligned after changing all that junk, but I was curious as to what exactly is causing this phenomenon.. Help!
Could be toe adjustment... most likely its the camber adjustment...Does it feel like you are driving on ball bearings when you change lanes/turn corners??? Note for future reference: When changing tie rods (inner/outer) at same time...Remove them as an assembly, measure center to center on the studs and set your new parts to this dimension before installation. This will at least get you close without hurting the tires right away. As for the bolt on the lower controll arm...Mark the eccentric prior to moving it so you have a reference point when re-installing/tightening the bolt. You need to get it properly aligned now that you messed with the parts. If you dont you will kill your front tires in short order...Good luck!!!
Yeah the front tires fee as slippery as a buttered snake on ice! Thank you for the info! Im gonna get under there again and see what kinda damage I can do!
