Well as of right now i'm thinking Moser. not too bad of a price plus they're Moser, haven't got around to ordering them yet so i figured id just ask and see what else there was out there for price/quality wise and yes they are custom for my shortened housing, what are you guys running? or what others are good also?
street car but will be at the strip a fair bit, prob put on about 20 runs a year and they will be 31 spline.
I've run the Moser 33 spline axles for about 10 years now with no problems yet. Only reason I went with the 33's are that I was doing the whole rear. Axles, full spool, etc. and the 33's at that time had a 10 year warranty and the 31's had none. And they were both the same price. I think they warranty them all now.
We'll have to get together after you get it ironed out, since I run 12.0s at Firebird too. Should be fun.
My first set of custom axles were Moser (see pic below). I twisted them. Probably was not the fault of Moser because I was probably running a little too much power for an 8" rear with 28 spline axles. That being said it was drag radials and not slicks. They do not warranty the 28 spline. I now run a Strange 9" and 35 spline! Good luck what ever you go with.
ive seen plenty of moser axles twist like that. you can get the strange s/s axle kits for near the same price as the mosers and you have a much better axle. also the mark williams masterline axles are a better axle for a comparable price.
superior is good if you need a direct fit axle. they have some cut to fits but they cant go shorter than the short side of a stock maverick. if you have narrowed your rear you will need custom made axles.
Strange street axles 31 spline.A little over $500 with bearings, plates, studs. From Strange canada/Bears Performace in Windsor Ontario. http://bearsperformance.com/canada/...Path=2&zenid=158ca33eedc3fc70621302c5f97c45e6
i was just taking a look at those...and the price seems a lot nicer than Mosers, they are: http://www.moserengineering.com/axles/custom-alloy-axles/custom-alloy-31-spline-axles.html 345 for their axles custom length for my torino style rear end. plus another 100 for bearing, retainers, studs. and then i see there strange's kit is 380, but i didn't see on the page it saying anything about custom length? are they better then the moser's i posted above?
the strange ones are better in my opinion. i have seen plenty of twisted moser axles. i havent seen any strange axles twist. i believe that moser case hardens there axles then cut the splines into them. doing this causes the splines to be cut through the harden surface and into the soft metal. strange will machine the axle then harden it. also get the access hole put into the axles to make installation easier.
im running moser axles and havent had a problem.i orderd mine through summit and had them in a week.my friend twisted his 2 1/2 splines but also bent the flange on his mark will.axle.i do know that moser says that up to 1 1/2 twists on there axles are fine and they said it was now stress hardened.so it doenst matter whos axle you get they can all fail!!!
