Adjusting a carb for altitude

    :wave: Hi guys, it's been a couple of years since I was on the board. Job, no time, You know the drill. Well I had to give up the maverick to my son. Kind of passing the torch. Brought her up from Houston to the Denver area and now the carb is giving me hell. I lent her to a buddy in Houston for a few months and he really disrespected her. Broke the choke lost parts anyway. Jr. wants to drive her daily so I got a NOS carb and now need to Know what screw to turn to adjust a one barrel on a 200 CID.


    Thanks in advance, I know you guys won't let me down.

    BTW some of you might remember that I had two but one had to go to the crusher because i just couldn't move her. She was an imported Mexican with a VIN that started with an "M" I will be posting a pic of the tire changing instructions in spanish because all I could save was the sport mirrors and the tail gate.

    You simply have to lean the mixture some for the "mile-high" altitude. With the engine at full operating temperature and the choke fully open, first advance the timing from the stock setting by about 4 degrees (Before Top Dead Center). Next, locate the idle mixture screw and turn it until you get a smooth idle and the exhaust doesn't smell "rich" or burn your eyes. Lastly, set your idle speed (around 750 RPM in neutral)...

    There is anly an adjustment for idle richness. You will have to get a smaller jet to lean out operation for all rpm ranges.
