I have factory AC but with an updated (r134a) compressor. Unlike a modern vehicle there is no dryer inline with the system. Has anyone put one in? I always replace the dryer when I open up my AC system on other cars, figured I'd do it on this one too.

Should be a dryer in front of core support on OE system-- IIRC! I have complete upgrade 134 system cept evap.
I don't recall my dryer being on inside of core; it's been about 7 yrs since the changes. Anyway, this is where it is now.

The factory dryer is located right next to the condenser behind the grill on the driver's side.

Hmm thanks y’all! I don’t seem to have a dryer. I’m going to work on plumbing one in once I reconnect the system.

This is news to me. I have never seen working AC without a dryer. When I redid my system, I installed the dryer near the OEM location, to the left of the condenser, behind the grill.

That cylinder provides more function than dryer, assuming no moisture when assembled & evacuated it'd have no function.

Mostly acts as a accumulator. Freon has greatly different expansion rates dependant on temp, excess winds up in accumulator.
