My 74 Comet with factory installed air is getting a few new parts. In the upgrade I will be cleaning out the Compressor and hoses to get rid of the old oil. My question is how much oil do I put back in? I can't seem to find the oil capacity or recommended charge (of Oil) for the York compressor.

    Thanks
    Dave

I usually put 4oz. in them, 6oz. in bigger systems, 4 oz. will work for a York style or Sanden compressor.

The 70 ford manual I have says 11 oz for the Tecumseh and 10 oz for the york. It also says 1 7/8 lbs of r12. That is for a completely cean system it does seam a little high I just did my 77 f-100 and I only used 7 oz but I am using a newer rotory style pump.

If you have access to a MOTOR manual they have a section on A/C that details on making a dipstick to check the oil level in a compressor before you charge the system. Mine is a late 70s early 80s edition, its out in the carport right now or I would look it up for you..........its 10:45pm and everybodys asleep but me!:hmmm: Better half gets ill when I wake her up! :D

Are you going to use R12 or R134A?R12 is expensive and hard to get,R134A is at any parts store.Does it have a expansion valve or orifice tube?

I'm going to use Freeze 12 with ester oil. It's a compatible R12 alternative.
