Aaaaaand, I'm back (now with pics!) Hello again boys! I always hoped I'd be able to show my face around here again! After selling my Comet last year in a spectacular feat of stupidity, I felt bereft and knew the Cometless situation wouldn't last long (probably why I kept the Chilton's manual). Lo and behold, with my current car lease nearing completion I needed a new daily driver. I've yet to make delivery but think I've found the perfect car: literally grandma's old car, been sitting umpteen years in a garage, sounds to be in good condition, 71 Comet V8. I have no pictures but at $600 I couldn't possibly pass it up. Now I just need to figure a way to get it down to my place (3hrs or so away, I don't have access to a reliable truck, blargh) but I'm excited. I'm not expecting a show car but hope that with a good cleaning and replacing all the old bits it'll become my new daily driver. I'd set aside $3000 for finding a new car - I figure for $600 I'm on the right track to having a beauty! Missed this place though. Never thought I'd part with my previous Comet - guess I didn't go far.
Lol! And you shall haVe them as soon as I get this puppy home. The last time I got my Comet I was broke - this time I have money set aside for the necessities as well as contacts/friends who can do the work I can't (welding, engine lifting, etc). I had big dreams for my last one - this one's are more modest as I want it to be my daily driver and RELIABLE above all else. Aside from it sitting for a hefty number of years it's also been spraypainted by the PO's local hooligans and it hasn't been registered since 92 so I'm sure my apartment complex is gonna LOVE me lol But I'm looking forward to seeing what I get - hopefully a nice surprise!
Indeed although I may end up changing that at some point as I'm seriously eying the CF Grabber hood Mavman makes (made?) or another Maverick hood/grill. Nothing against the Comet (I love the luxury items and they tend to come with more) but while I love the rear I'm not a fan of the lip. I've yet to see the 71's but my old 73's was atrocious; got rid of the stock hood as soon as I found a replacement. (anyone know if MM is still making those carbon fiber hoods?) I know nothing about the car other than it's a V8 2-door Comet that belonged to grandma, has been sitting since 92 (except when the CO started it up a couple years back and drove it to his place) and is $600. Buying it totally sight unseen and that's exciting to me. Now I have to stop myself from buying a whole bunch of parts (performance radiator, MSD ignition package, front disc brake sets, Edelbrock intake/carb; the list goes on!) before I even take purchase of the vehicle! Yeah i'm definitely a card-carrying member of the Now Generation.
Welcome back to the wonderful world of Comet Ownership! Here's pics of the front of my '72 Comet GTs, they should be the same as yours. I hate to say this, but the nose on the front is what I like about these cars! I won't hold it against you though. :Handshake Hope this helps, -Scott H.
I've never seen one with a fully intact grill, at least not in person; my last one was missing theirs entirely and all I could find was one for the Mav. We'll see but I know I love the Comet's rear lights. Damn but I'm all fired up to get this car. Can't 3 days go faster somehow?!
