A few sites I visit use a software called Userplane which is a Audio/Video/Chat software.. I went to their site to see if they had a free version of it.. they do, so I created a Maverick/Comet AVC room.. It is in no way affiliated with maverick.to and is just a test to see if people like it. Give it a try, you can create multiple rooms, Private message, send and recieve audio and video from a webcam and mic, cool stuff :bananaman. Seems like some other requirements would be a camera, and a microphone...which I don't have. Seems like this will soon be THE communication technology, then they will be able to do it with cell phones (notice that cells do pics and video already, and text messaging, and walkie talkie...almost there).
