I am still doing my homework on this stuff and I have a few questions:

    1) What rear gear and tranny?
    2) cubic inch motor?
    3) Whats the RPM difference at the big end between a motor pass and a bottle pass?
    4) 1/8th or 1/4?

    Thanks!

Another question to add to that , how big a shot can KB Hyper pistons take:confused:

its not much different than a regular race car except you have lower compression pistons basically.......i have never ran juice but i have watched the guys that compete agaist my brother in law in top dragster class (he runs IHRA blown injected alcohol) and i have come to the conclusion the nitrous is a big pain in the butt if you ask me....street nitrous and race nitrous are two different animals so it all depends on your application.....race nitrous is very cold and has to be heated (usually with a torch right before you make a pass to keep it from freezing) ........you never see the street guys do that!! lol
but your still going to wrap that engine up around 8 9000 rpms and your talking alot of money for that........strret is a littttle cheaper but still have to have an engine that will hold together in the bottom end..........is about all i can tell you

    hey John,

    1) im running a C4 with a 4.11 rear with 28" slicks(tried a 4.86 and slowed it down on spray, i plan on trying a 3.70 next season to see if the less gear will let the NOS' torque pull the car)

    2) you already know im running a 347 with a set of flat tops so the compression is around 10.5

    3) on the spray it crosses the line just under 7600 and on motor its only like 63-6500 so roughly 1000 rpms

4)1/4 and even if i was to run 1/8 id still be planning on changing the gear..

and as far as the heating and cooling thing goes, my experiance with this stuff is to keep it around 900- 950psi which really wasnt too tough would even be easier with a bottle heater my redneck a$$ would take the bottle out and lay it in the floor of the truck to heat it up lol...

one little heads up that got brought to my attention about a month and a half ago as a safety feature dont turn the bottle on until you start the engine to go make your pass ( i know its hard to do if your by yourself) but i had a friend with a 7 second thunderbird running the quick 8 just about blow his dads head off when he started the engine right before his last qualifying pass and one of the NOS sil. stuck open and filled the motor and as soon as the ignition hit it blew the hood scoop and the top of his sheetmetal intake completley off... that dont happen often but when it does it makes you open your eyes,,,

ok im done rambeling any other questions i'll try to help with what i can..

    Jim

Cubic inches don't matter... n2o creates them for you!!!!! C-4's will handle it if they're built right... I recomend Jim's Performance Transmissions in Mich... I go thru the lights at 6800 on the motor,74-7500 on the bottle with a 27" slick and a 4.11 gear.

Nitrous creates heat!!!!!!!!!! Lean it out and it becomes a blow torch. Let pre-ignition start it starts melting pieces real quick!!! Proper fuel delivery ang a upgraded ignition are cructial!!!! Good Luck... Ask and read as much as you can!!!!! http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/MembersPics/S_TeasGrabber_1.jpg

The bottle is not heated to keep anything from freezing!!!!!!!!! The bottle is heated to reach the desired bottle pressure, guys on the street do it as well as guys at the strip. And there's really not much difference in running nitrous on the street as on the strip, I mean hell, once you hit the switch it doesn't care whether your on the street at the strip or dropping it out of a airplane!!!!!

OK, now that i've gotten that off my chest (don't listen to people that don't know what they are doing, that's how you get in trouble with nitrous) honestly i've never paid attention to my rpm's while on the nitrous....i'm usually too busy trying to get the car to run straight. I like smaller nitrous motors, the bigger motors on the nitrous usually make too much torque for a small tire car!!! ( not that a small motor can't make a bunch of torque but the bigger motors are harder on tires)

I"m running the c4 with an 8" converter and 4.56 gears w/ 26x10" tire......Jim (purple70) has just about got me talked into trying a 4.11 gear for next season though.....I think it will be easier on the tires!!

how big a shot can KB Hyper pistons take

I wouldn't go over 150HP shot without forged pistons.

Just a couple of quick things to add... NEVER heat a nitrous bottle with a torch , get away from anyone else who is doing it also! If the guy using the torch hisitates in one area just a little too long ,and weakens the aluminum bottle too much on that spot ...The bottle becomes a Bomb!

Nitrous is the same (2 parts nitrogen,1 part oxegen) no matter what the application, street or race. The only variable would be medical grade Nitrous which isnt normally used for automotive systems.
    My 2 cents worth.

6.55@105.........I'd say that is "fairly" real. ;)

Thanks everyone. I knew the rpm's was gonna be different, but I did not figure it would average around 1,000rpm. hmmmmm.

I am going with the 4.11's as well, the 4.86 in it now and it is perfect for the 1/8th mile.(trap rpm 6,800). But I plan on running more 1/4 mile stuff next year. When I run the 1/4, I will run on motor,(except maybe a little spray to get a low 9 time slip;) ) and I am gonna race street car shootout(1/8th mile) thats about the only time I will use the nitrous.

    thanks again to all.

i hate when i have to quote myself........notice the first three words of that sentence? i just figured i would put my two cents in and tell him what i have seen with nitrous........and as far as not knowning what im talking about..........well, when the nitrous guys come back and start winning against us ( i am the crew chief btw) with our little old motor then you can say i dont know what im talking about......that will happen one day, when the juicers quit blowing up there motors trying to beat us in the quick 8!!!! and thats all im going to say about that

    I feel better now!

You must have misunderstood me: I did not say the 6.55@105 was in the 1/8mile. Its in the mile! 6 minutes, 55 seconds@105 mph!
