I have found a number of solutions already on these forums for a few of my issues! I thank all who have helped me indirectly, this place has been more informative than any repair manual ever could.

    Ahem.

So the engine likes to pulse after 10 or so minutes of driving, I found that it could be a number of issues including fuel filters, fuel sock, and spark plugs. I will go ahead and troubleshoot these things tomorrow.

One problem I couldn't find is an interesting one, occasionally when the car is "shut off" on the ignition switch and the key taken out, the car is still running and the only way to shut it off is to take the center distributor wire off. I'm assuming this could just be an ignition cylinder issue, but you never know.

Next is I need some sort of an alternator wiring diagram. The car has a brand new alternator, but it isn't hooked up (which could be a cause for a number of my problems ) but for the life of my I cannot find out how to hook the thing up! It has a voltage regulator.

    Regards,
    Keith

as far as the motor running when turned off it has to be the wireing

but i can help you with the alternator problem i would look into doing a 3G alternator swap what that is - is a newer cars alternator that is way better 1990-1993 taurus and some other cars will work i am not sure if it will work on the inline 6 motor but if you post some pic's i or some other person may be able to help

Well I got the alternator all hooked up in the right order. I haven't checked the fuel yet, but the car has a mind of it's own.

I went to jump start it just to move it to another parking spot. The second I plugged in the last connector to my truck the Maverick started on its own, and by the sound of the engine it sounded like the starting was still cranking while it was on. To top of the silliness the transmission slipped into reverse and tried to drive away.

So once again, disconnected the distributor and it's sitting. I don't know if I have bad wiring or a solenoid somewhere. Need to do some exploring.

I would look at the starter solenoid 1st thing. It might be fused together inside.

Well I went ahead and got a new solenoid. Only problem is I'm not sure how to fnish wiring the thing. It has two little prongs on the front, and I have a black cap and a red cap that go over them but I read something saying I only need to connect one?

The problem with the car running after the key is removed is most likely a bad ignition switch. The exact same thing happened with my '77 Maverick a few years ago. I pulled out the key after a long trip and the car right on running. I had to pull one of the battery cables to shut it down. The funny thing is the car only did that one time and I still haven't changed the switch.

you need both wires hooked up. i dont know wich color goes to wich post. the post marked with s is for the wire that goes hot when you turn the key to crank. the other wire goes to the ignition coil so it gets 12 volts while your cranking the motor. if you igntion system is stock then you still need this wire hooked up.

Update for those who don't mind :)

I decided to replace the starter solenoid and things started to get better. It now shuts off when it's told to! haha.

I did some voltage tests when cranking and it didn't seem to be getting the juice it craves from the alternator AND battery. Both might be bad. On the plus side I have a brand new battery that will work and I'm heading down to Shucks for a free alternator test.

    Cheers.

P.S. I might just even pick up an ignition control module (if I called it right) and maybe an ignition coil. I still need to blow out the fuel lines and check the entire fuel system. Maybe it could be the pulsing culpret.
