Thanks for all the info. I should of just ask what is the differences in the rear drum brakes from 74/75 to 76? Thanks.. I just want to make sure what year my rear end is before i start buying brakes and lines. Thanks guys I do appreciate all the information.

Measure the size of the hole in the brake drum, or the stub of the axle. I can go and measure one in my 73, and one in my 74, they are different sizes.

I'm thinking 74-75 drums are the same 10" drums. If you are looking to order brake shoes, measure their width to be sure, probably 1 3/4" wide or possibly 2 1/2"

The rear ends are pretty much the same has for the brake system if its a 5 lug. I have notice for a 72 that the axles are different. The center portion of the axle that goes into the center rim was smaller than other years.

disc brake cars use the larger centering hub. discs were an option in 74 but I don't know for sure if the drum brake cars had the larger centering hub. 75 and up were all disc brake sized centering hubs. I believe that is the difference in the drums.

He's talking about the rear end not the front end.

I understand that. The front having disc was a guarantee that the rear was originally equipped with larger centering hubs. What I am unsure of is if the 74 with drum brakes had the smaller hub centers.

The centering hubs are the same for the drum brakes. I have a 75 with drum and the center hubs are the larger ones.

The center hole in the drums for 74-75 is about 2 3/4" or slightly more. The earlier drums were just a little bit smaller, around 2 1/2".

But the wheels will have larger center holes all the way around, that was his point. The disc hubs had a larger outer diameter than the drum hubs, thus the wheel centers will be larger on the rearend as well.
