Hello, I would like to thank everyone for being here on these message forums for myself and anyone else trying to learn.

I am a former chevy man, but was subjected to a good deal on a 73 maverick, so here I am.
I have a few questions about these mavericks:
Will the maverick suspension hold up to a 351w?

Will a 351 make that much more power or torque over a 302 or a 331, that it is worth messing with the shock towers.

The reason I ask is that I already have a Performer rpm intake, hooker headers that I could use on a 303 block.
If there is a real big difference, I will use a 351, I am just wondering if there are any of you that are in the high eleven's
    (ET) N/A with a 302 or a 331.
I am planning on buying AFR 185 heads next mont to get started.
    Sorry So Long.

    Its your call....

but I would go with the 302 based motor. Stroke it out with the AFR heads and the right stahl converter and gear and it will scream!!! There is several people on this board that run 302's and they are into the 10 second zone on motor. Just my thought.

mavericks, mustangs, and falcons are all bilt on the same platform so yes a 351 will go in there but I would go with a 347

331 is more reliable than a 347. The 347 is better suited for race-only applications. Due to the location of the piston pins, the 347 is more likely to break and is also prone to oil consumption. The 331 would be a lot less of a headache and will make just as much power as a 351. Nowadays, your money is better spent on the stroker kit & machine work for a 302, rather than cutting the shock towers all the other B.S. for a 351 installation...
