I yanked the tank to clean it and found HUNDREDS of holes in the top of the tank. I need a new tank, but can OLNY find ones for a 76-77 mavericks. any idea where i can get a good used or new tank?? thanks chaz.
New ones are not reproduced. If you have good fabrication skills, you can easily adapt a 65-68 mustang tank which are reproduced and fairly cheap. Check out: http://maverick.to/gtu_faq.php
If they are just pinholes like I had, you can take it to most radiator shops and they will seal and coat it, If they are bigger than that, which I had some bigger, they saudered sheet metal where it needed to be and then sealed and coated it. Where I got mine done at only cost me $150
Well, upon further looking at the tank there at 1/8 holes ALL OVER, the top, the bottom the sides... So im just gunna look for a good used tank (UGH!) might take a while, but i think its better off... Thanks Guys, Chaz.
The tanks are the same. Doesn't matter if is a 6, 8, 2 door or 4 door. 71-74 are the same, although some say the 74 went to the larger tank. All the ones I've seen were the small one.
Why did you convert to a mustang tank? whats the difference between a maverick and mustang tank? IM right outside of San Antonio about 12 miles West.
just wanted more room on the sides of the tank. i now have 2 1/2 exhaust running all the way out back. the mustang tank has the fuel sender in the front, the maverick's is on the side.
