My cozin has a 68 F100 parts truck he said I can have the rear end out of it if I can use it.
I know it will have to be cut down but i have been doing some reading on them older rearends and some of them are DANA rearends with like 23 splin axles don't think that be any better than the 8in but if its a 9in i can just have them axle cut down to? because if i am right i beleave i read some where, some time in the 70s the axle where taperd and those could not be cut down.

Also would it be any cheaper to have the axles cut down or just by new ones?

    Thanks Jim

    I've had a few
If it's an original '68 F100, it will definately have a 9 inch. F250's of that era had Dana 60's.

F100 should have a 9". The heavier trucks ran the Dana which will have a removable rear cover.

Personally I would just buy a set of aftermarket axles rather than respline an old set.

It is a orginal 68 f100 long wheel base truck with a 360 and 3 speed on the column.

My dad has a factory shortbed F100 that came with a 360, 3 on the column.
It came with a 9 in. 3.25 non-positive. That rear is quite a bit wider than
your Maverick Comet. It should also be a 28 spline axle.
