Okthis is just a ?? so don't stone me yet.A friend hasa 401 amc engine out of a amc police matador. It has about 78,000 miles on it, car got rolled...do you think it would fit in a maverick, seeing that all amc v8 from 304 to 401 are the same block... He just bought a 73 rolling body and wanted feedback....ok the stoning may commence, lol. Seriously folks what do you think? Only reason he asked is that he already has engine and tranny etc...Jim:confused:

I'd try to find a solid Gremlin and put it in there!

Gremlin with a 401? Now that would be interesting. I used to kind of like those cars just a little

It's a bit too wide for the Maverick. Plus, if I ever see you with an AMC engine in a Ford I'll shoot you in the face with a bazooka. :D

I do believe that engine is nearly as wide as a 351w...and worse yet, the exhaust ports are set up like a chevy small block...the center two are very close together. Might make a tough time installing it, but then again, it can't be much worse than putting a 351w in there.

Would be neat though. I've seen a Maverick with a 440 Mopar, SBC, I think I saw another one with a 509 BBC. Never an AMC though!

It might fit good in a Pacer.:) BTW, I actually have seen a Pacer street machine at a car show. That thing had a huge engine and had more chrome on it than the whole car was worth. I had to give the guy credit for being different.

When I was a kid I used to drive around in my mother's Gremlin X, 304 w/3-speed manual trans. Very quick little car. A friend of mine who is a AMC nut had a Gremlin with a built 360 in it. :bananaman

hmmm never been shot in the face with a bazooka..Craig I'll tell my bud about the car...Being different is why I own a maverick, that and the fact they are just cool...As for a 401 gremlin X Guy in Tunica, Ms. had a bright green metalflake gremlin x with a 401 4 speed...looked like a bass boat real sparkly. It was a BAD ride.... He may try to put it in...either way I wish him luck...gotta got get a bazooka proof halloween mask, lol

Craig-you come up with some weird stuff.
401 won't work. Pistons point the opposite direction,
distributor is on the firewall and oil pan won't clear
    even a Grabber hood.
That motor is just upside down compared to a Ford.

    Get a 302 or 351!

    Seth
