This is my plan for the motor. Question is, will the cleveland heads clear the shock towers with hooker 6208 headers installed? What I am trying to ask is if the cleveland heads are about the same size as 302 heads. If I can't do that, what other options do I have in regards to headers on the motor? I am on a tight budget so it has to be fairly reasonable. Eventually, I plan on doing the shock tower mod but as of right now, I don't have the money.
hooker 6208s wont fit a cleveland head, and with clevend heads i believe they are much bigger than any 302/351w head with a 302 based motor hooker 6901s fit perfect...they are 1 5/8s but they are for 302/351w heads.... what do you want to do with the car?
I want the car to be primarily for the street but it will also see some strip time. I am fairly new into all of the high performance stuff as I am 17. Do you know if the heads themselves will clear the shock tower?
If your budget is tight, just build a strong 302. There are plenty of them in the 12's on this site. Enough for the a street car that sees limited track duty. Trying to find cheap headers for the combo you are talkin about will be virtually impossible. Lance
im only 20 , dont worry you will learn by doing , and on here , there is alot of smart guys and gals on here far as street 347 you could run like a roush 200 heads , reletivy cheap compared to aluminum heads, that is a iron head, there is couple other options, up to you how fast and how much you want to pay
That's cool, I thought I was just about the only one my age who owned one. About how much do those heads run?
If your looking to put together a decent street motor for as little cash as possible I would recomend a 302 with a set of Ford Explorer GT40 heads, or a set of 70 model 351W heads. I have a set of 351W heads that I am going to put onto my 302 unitl I get my 5.0 built. Just my though.
It is cheaper and better to use aftermarket 302 heads, they also flow better than the cleveland. I bought Aussi type for $375, machine work & springs cost $900 the ferra valves cost $275. I also did alot of the machine work myself (cutting pedestals for screw in studs, machining the water exit holes for freeze plugs, and machining a hole for the manifold) You also have to consider the other parts to make this combination work like the manifold, different valve reliefs for the pistons, headers. I'm not saying don't do it just realize there is alot of money and work to get this up and running.
That is cool, I owned a 74 Maverick and my 75 Comet but sadly the maverick donated it's floors to the Comet.
I don't think anyone makes headers for the GT40P (Explorer head) in a maverick body. Has anybody done this? I would like to try it, as my 5.0 is a 86 with e6 heads.
Scooper is running GT40P heads on his car I believe. I am 19 and have seven Mavericks. I got my first ('74 Grabber) when I was 17. I originally wanted a Comet, but have yet to come across a good deal on one. I was brought up around Comets, my dad had 5 Comet GT's, they are all gone now.
