I am swapping my I6 to a 302. The 302 has an AOD on it. Will the drive shaft length on the mav work with the AOD

I don't think so. But just about any machine shop can resize it for a small fee. Had one done for my Comet (302 and a T5) for $40 at a place that builds custom trailers. The guy said he would build me a brand new drive shaft for $200. of course minus the slip yoke. put the motor and trans in then measure the shaft. It should be cheap to resize. My parts warehouse guy is from AZ and he says things are cheaper out that way.

You'll need a custom rear tranny mount as well ...

And a hammer to enlarge the trans tunnel on your 70 ...

And make sure you have an AOD that does not change gears electronically.

Personally I like the electronic AODs better. Better internals. Also you can get a Bauminator kit to fine tune the shifts and to turn the Overdrive on/of.

I would love an AODE with the first and second gear swapped out with steeper ones and a set of 3.25s to 3.40s great off the line drag race performance and low rpms for cruisng and gas mileage. If they were not so expensive to build for drag racing I would be all over it.

Also you can just use a fox body driveshaft. May have to get a swap u- joint if you are using an 8 inch rearend. Part number 331 precesion brand name;) otherwise the factory mustang u-joint will fit the 9 inch pinion yoke.
