302 conversion headaches

    i recently started a 302 conversion in my 75 ford maverick. im having alot of trouble and need help. the first thing is the idle. it idles really high and wont kick down. and then when u put it in gear is breaks down like its not firing or something? basically it cant carry a load what should i do? where should i start.:mad::mad:

    Almost sounds like you have a vacuum leak.

    Check all your vacuum lines ... and carb spacer, etc ...

    i have a carb spacer with new gaskets but i check again. all other vacuums are connected or plugged.

    also i did a compression check and it passed no problem. could this be a cam issue???

    Cam as in Timing? Did you put a new timing chain in? Is the dizzy in right? Is it timed correctly?

    ok, i put the timing light on it and it timed correct (6 before)

    How are you checking the timing if it is idling high?

    it will come down for a while and go back up. it was down and i dialed in the timing. but now it wont come down at all. i have adjusted the idle screw almost all the way out to no prevail. i got another carb and it has the same problem.

    Has to be a vacuum leak. PLug everything except the hose going to the dizzy ....

    What other vacuum you have? C4? Power Brakes? A/C?
