I was wondering if there was any way of puting a 2bbl carb on a 1970 with a 170cid and a 1bbl carb? Any iformation would be helpfull! THANKS
If it were my car I would put a better exhaust system on it 2 inch single exhaust a better muffler and a header if you can afford one. It would also be a good idea to do an ignition system upgrade too . The pertronix (sp?) system does away with the points and fits inside you`r stock distributor, you can get it for 80-85 bux . For a carb a webber 32/36 will still get you good gas milage and performance too you can get carb adaptors through these guys www.stoveboltengineco.com
does the petronix piece require anything else?, I've heard of a conversion that requires an ignition piece from the 78 fairmont. do they sell it for a 74 250, who sells it?
check out this site. I am currently putting a ford 2bbl carb on my 200, this site has all the info you will need http://fordsix.com/:thumbsup:
No it don`t need any parts from other cars . I think you`r talking about the DSII ignition system ? I`m sure they make one fore you`r car, you should be able to get on at any parts store .
So the petronix piece is available at most car parts places, do I just tell them them motor size year etc and I want to do away with points.
I was off on the price it was 80 bux for the ford v8s but its 112 bux for the I6s any way the part # is 1261 . Halebopp , Yup just tell them you wan`t a pertronix for a `74 ford inline six or tell them the part # .
I just located Pertronix web site, and did a search for dealers in my area it showed none in a 300 mile radius , do you know what parts stores carry these, becasue there is not, from what I see, a way to order direct form Pertronix ??
Yeah I see now they have a catalogue on line too, I 'll do more checking, I didn't look far enough into their website
A 170 is such a weak engine to begin with. I really don't think I would even try to upgrade that engine. There are better options for the amount of money you would spend trying to get any decent amount of power out of that little 170. Even a stock 250 would be a huge increase in power.
