2500 miles since 2/14/10. Semi-synth oil. Swap it or keep it going for 5k miles?

Not a maverick but relevant either way.

The wife's 05 mustang, she drives 5 miles each way to work. Changed oil 2/14/10 and since then only 2500 miles.

Should I change it every 6 months or every 5000 miles?

Not sure if Castrol semi-synthetic oil makes a difference.

I change the Mav oil once a year. It only gets about 3-4000 miles a year on it. The synthetic stuff is supposed to go longer between changes, so I think you'd be safe to the 5000 miles unless that is a lot of stop and go traffic, then I'd do the 2500-3000 mile change.

Ya'll must not drive that car much. We usually put 1200-1500 miles on one a month, and we neither one drive to work!

The wife is a school teacher and works in the elementary school at the next neighborhood over, so no, she doesn't drive it much. Not really stop and go, but go up a couple miles, wait at a light, go a couple miles, 4-way stop, a couple miles and there. Then back again on the way home, where somehow Walmart or Kroger gets in the way :hmmm:

So maybe 10 miles a day.

Wish I had that kind of driving. I have 50 miles to work, then 15-20 miles a day while I am there, then 50 miles home. My oil gets changed OFTEN!!! :(

once an oil is in a motor it starts brakeing down and turning acidic from the fuel contamination. that is why there is a time or milage recomendation for oil chages. you should change your oil and wich ever comes first.
my car hasnt seen 200 miles in the last 3 year but has had 6 oil changes. its these little things that allow motors to last for ever or wear out prematurely

Bryant, what is the recommended time frame for change? Are we looking at every 6 months, 12 months, or what?

I assume 6 months, so in this case the wife's car needs an oil change (as does the maverick) since it has been 8-10 months each. Even though 2500 miles on the wife's car and maybe 300-400 on mine.

6 months is the general time recomendation.

My wife's truck might get 5000 miles a year, I just change it every 6 months, it's always clean. The dealer would like it sooner, but all they want is my $$$

The wife asked me this morning "does my oil need to be changed?"

I started to wonder if the semi-synthetic could go longer than 6 months, and figured the best place for a decent answer is the Maverick forum! :D

I use semi-synthetic in my daily driver. It gets changed about every 6 weeks, or 5000 miles, whichever comes first. :D

Change Annies oil at 6 months.

You don't want her engine to get acid reflux

My sisters Honda manual says yearly or when the minder light comes on. The dealer told her the typical 3 months or 3000 miles when she asked them.

If you are using a semi-syn oil I would not go over 4500 miles or 6 months. I just read apiece about oil and they stated that semi-syn has between 10 and 15% syn in it, or as they put it not enough to make a differents. I use Mobil One and change it at 7500 miles or yearly and it has always been clean. Todays oil are SO improved over the oil I used in the 70's. I have also seen improved mileage with a ful syn, not alot but some.
