I was told by a guy at a car show awhile back about advancing the timing on a 250 6cyl. It is a stock 74 250 in a Maverick, this guy said go buy a early timing set that is advanced by 7 degrees, exactly as the early 69-71 motors. He said that it would wake it up a bit without doing any other mods to it. Anyone ever done this swap?

Yep...It woke it up some but the Duraspark II swap with Mr Gasket's 925D spring really woke up some sleeping horses.

The main difference between the pre emission timing gear and post emission gear is there's one tooth difference between the keyway and alignment "dot". http://www.woodyg.com/fairlane/finfo/CamTiming.html
