I was looking to upgrade my distributor to a DUI from classic inline sometime soon. On the page it says it does not fit with the stock power steering pump and bracket . The DUI cap is to big and hits the p/s bracket . Has anyone installed one and what has to be done to the p/s bracket? Can it be modified at all? Thanks Shawn
I thought it was a great idea after reading the tech article that classic inline has about the upgrade...but i guess people dont mod there cars for performance or improvements??
yeah i really thought about that, I plan on adding the webber with the 2v convertion and a cam with headers and i thought the DUI would be the best place to start! But i do like the price on the petronix compared to the DUI.
And you have to remember that if you read the comparisons on Classic Inlines they don't discuss the Petronix II set-up, which imo is a bit superior to the DUI. Especially with the simplicity of install. Their tech write-ups are a little on the older side. Still good valid information, but some stuff has improved since they were written.
I'm running the Ignitor II and Flamethrower II on my 302, a few other guys on here are as well and seem as happy with theirs as I am with mine. Recently someone posted putting the Ignitor III on theirs and being pretty happy with it. But the III is more of a racing set-up I think. I'm happy with my Ignitor II, I was going to put one on my 200 before I got the GT with the 302.
Yeah i just looked it up. Looks good! Its nice to have good feed back. Thank you very much!! Im going to look into it more tomorrow and will probably go with it.
Anytime you replace a worn out 40+ year old distributor with a brand new distributor your engine is going to run better. You got to remember that people who sell the DUI is going to write a rosy advertisement. I’m not a big fan of having the coil in the cap to splatter sparks all over the weights and springs. http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=19440
Thats a good article! I think im going to go with the ignitor II set up. Good price and sounds like it has good performance and reliability!

You do realise the D.U.I. distributors are the craptacular chinese distributors on ebay with a fancy sticker and a higher price tag stuck on them. The D.U.I. name was bought when jacobs ignition went under and Accell ignition group bought up the rest of the company. A guy I work with put one of those D.U.I. distributors on his 84 CJ last year. His jeep has the old 4.2l straight six. The D.U.I. stayed on that engine for 2 and a half weeks before it was replaced with the stock duraspark distributor. He couldnt get it to advance properly, or maintain idle. When we pulled off the cap one of the mechanical advance weights was seized onto the pivot shaft so it wasnt advancing correctly, apparently when it was machined they did not deburr it and they assembled it over chips. So instead of dissasembling it and cleaning up all the manufacturing defects it was easier to send it back and take his money and buy a better coil and a nice set of plug wires and get better performance.
