I was outside fiddling with something or the other on the maverick when a neighbor walking his dog presented something interesting to me- the possible danger of running unleaded gas without additive in my pre-cat equipped car.
He told me a story about cracking the valve seats in a ford truck he had due to having a pre 74 head. Should I be worried? I changed the valve cover last year and everything's fine right now.

I thought 74 you ran unleaded? I could be wrong.

Mines a 74 with a 250 and ( knock on wood ) I have had no engine problems. I run high test gas every now and then, because it seems to have better fuel conditioners in it. :)

my thinking is...FWIW...170-200-250...would not have a problem with unleaded gas...:drive:
if having head rebuilt...install hardened seats...(y)

I've been putting unleaded in for all 5 years I've been driving this car. It just sounded like one of those little things that I'd never thought of that might bite me in the butt. And good thinking there, Frank. (y)
