I'm wondering if anyone has done a large bumper swap (74-77) to a 73 bumper system? I have a line on a 73 that would work well. I'll check the archives when I get a chance but thought I would ask before heading to work. I can't recall anyone doing this particular swap. I really need to know if the swap is any easier than a 69-72 swap. I'm wondering about bolting the bumpers on, the notched front fenders, etc. Thanks
The 74 to 70 swap was not difficult. It was difficult finding the bumpers in any good or salvagable shape. Same for the valence. I still have not found a decent (read "presentable") rock guard, and will probably make one from the rubber one I had on the 74. I would think that the 74-73 would be an almost even swap, except for that rock guard, if it even has one. Should, for the most part, bolt right up. Search the forum, you will likely find a write up about how to do it.
I would think that the rear bumper would go just like your average small bumper swap would, as it looks like a normal 70 - 72 bumper out back to me. Not sure about the front one, but let us know what you find out. I know where there is a 73' Mav with decent bumpers sitting at and it sure would be nice to get rid these big bumpers on our 74'.
I did it. 1973 Maverick bumpers on a 1974 Comet GT. E-mail for details: redcometgt@aol.com Front: Fenders, no work to be done. Piece of cake, just bolt them up. Back: need to add trunk floor support brackets available from any Mustang supplier. Seth
i learned about the notched fenders first hand 2 weeks ago. i bought a fender from a comet, unknown year, and it wouldnt fit. after alittle investigation i realized that the comet fender did not have a notch and mine did....so i grabbed my grinder, cut the notch, folded the metal and VOILA... it fits fine now
i can get a picture of the notch but i dont have a digital camera so i wont be able to post it for awhile Sorry
