I know the gas tank is about 6 inch or so to wide. I heard the floor bards can be made to fit, but not a direct drop in.

It may not be the direction you want to go, but I ended up making a bolt in fuel cell to replace my junk 70 gas tank. This way I didn't have to butcher the trunk floor just in case a 70 tank is ever reproduced or if I find a nice one.

It just got a piece of 16 ga and made a plate to bolt in place of the old tank and mounted the fuel cell to it. The fuel cell has a GM ohm'd sender so I had to add a GM ohm'd fuel gauge to my gauge panel.

The only issue I've had with this set up is a little bit of a fuel odor from the tank vent when the vehicle is stored. This can be remedied by venting thru a charcoal canister but I just installed a vent shut off for when it's stored. It's actually just a petcock for a snowmobile.
