A lot to catch you all up on, so here we go! First and foremost, I completely updated the suspension back in October of 2021. The brakes were all seized and they were very worn out anyway. I took the spindles and front sway bar from my old Stallion and put them on, along with new shocks, springs, control arms, and bushings. Disc brakes up front with bigger drums and an 8" out back. Fully reciprocating strut rods will be on the list or later, as well as Caltracs and a rear sway bar. So much for those 1" lowering springs... my dad joked it's the '4WD Maverick'. Consider this a lesson learned, just going to get the stock V8 springs and cut them to fit.
The summer before the tear down over the winter, in June of 2022. The little I6 proved to still have some boogie left in her, I can only imagine what a snotty 302 will do!
And the one everyone's been waiting for, the renders of my car all dressed up in the Blue Stallion treatment, done by my friend Abimelec Oscar of Abimelec Design on Facebook. Great guy and he knew exactly what I was after. She has christened 'Eve' by Duane Kadinger, short for 'Evelyn', and I think it works well!
September 2022, teardown begins. The rot is a fair bit worse than we thought, the entire battery tray is completely rotted out, and even has some rust up on top, right above the shock towers where the fender sits. It'll have to be cut out and replaced along with the front radiator support, which was damaged in an accident.
After some fighting, on September 25th, the engine and trans finally came out. Now the real work begins!!
So. Many. Spot welds... Drilled them all out and began test fitting the donor apron, which came from a 1972(3??) Maverick 4 door. The donor piece needs some rust repair, but nothing that can't be fixed.
That two tone looks killer!!!! Ford could have done so much more with this car rather than painting it flat black. I wonder if you could get those Stallion decals made with matching blue background instead of red.
Just starting my 70 Mav. I currently have the interior gutted and looking for a floor shifter steering column or someone to rebuild my column shifter.... any suggestions out there. Am willing tito buy a new one and will have the older column shifter if anyone needs one.
