Since my thread on the Draglites got hijacked I figured I would post this in a new thread. Are 185/70's too skinny? It's like 7.2" cross sec. daim. I made an appointment to go look at the Draglites this saturday but they have those tires on them which sound like the wheels themselves are going to be a bit skinny for me. He did say that they are pretty skinny.

I have the stock wheels on there now, anybody know what the tire size would be? I won't be able to check them until Saturday morning.

I have a 1976 Maverick Stallion, and 85 More Mavericks and Comets in Inventory.
P195/70 R14 Is a better size Tire I found over the years,,, If you want a smoother ride,, Use Michelin Weather wise all season Radials,,,, Great for over all ride in the city or Highway,,, Makes the car feel like you changed the suspension over to Luxury,,

the 185's all the way around will give you a stock looking tire. If it were me I would put the 185's on the front rims and while you have the rims at the tire dealer ask them to mount a used 205 on one of them to see how they fit (only cost a few $$ to mount a tire and then if you like the fit you could get 2 new ones mounted and balanced) and run the 205's on the back. I have the skinny stock rims on my yellow 72 and it has 205's all the way around, they are wider at the tread then they are at the bead but they don't look funny or cause any problems, I have put over 13,000 miles on them that way and the only time I even think about them is if I take a sharp turn running about 25 - 30 mph I can hear a little bit of a tire squeel from the front, but I think that might also be because I am in dire need of a camber adjustment and not so much the wider than stock tires.

I was just worried because the guy I might buy the draglites off of said "the rims aren't very wide." I don't know what the width on them is I just know that they have 185/70R14's mounted on them.

I'm just afraid that I will go check them out Saturday and they are going to be like 5" drag racing style wheels that I can't mount anything wider than a 185 on anyway.

Ask him if there are any numbers on the insides of the rims? sometimes the size or the part number will be cast or stamped into the rim.
