I need to do a total redo My rear brakes on my 73 and was checking out my options and came across Ford racing M-2209-B backing plate kit and M-1126-B 11" drums. Looking over the specs its for a small bearing 9" rear so it should work on a 5 lug 8" rear? The cost for everything thru summit is $279, MP wants $399 what looks to be the same thing which is more than I want too spend http://www.mpbrakes.com/products/product-detail.cfm?product_id=695 . Anybody try this?

Does Summit have it in kit form? If so, what's the part number?

This would be less unsprung weight than a disc setup on the rear.

The Summit part number for 2 complete backing plates is FMS-M-2209-B and FMS-M-1126-B is the drum number. After making a call the bad news is this is for 9" Big bearing (new style) and has a 3.562 x 2.0 flange bolt pattern ,center 3.150 dia. and uses 3/8" bolts . The 5 lug 8" and small 9" bearing the bolt pattern is 3.375 x 2.0 ,center 2.835 and uses 3/8" bolts and the 9" Big bearing (old style) bolt pattern 3.5 x 2.375 , center 3.150, uses 1/2" bolts. Now the MP 11" kit will work but its about $100 more than I'm willing to spend.
