you shouldn't have a lot of gas going everywhere, unless you tried to drop your tank with a lot of gas in it, as for the sensor, i'm not too sure...

A buddy of mine dropped the tank on his torino and used an angle grinder with sandpaper disk to strip all teh gunk off the tank and painted it...
