so it looks like i'm going to be rebuilding my power steering control valve this weekend. it has too much play in the rod that connects to the pitman arm. i'm a hydraulic mechanic so i'm not too worried about rebuilding it myself. i'll take some pictures and possibly post a tech article. maybe i'll rebuild the cylinder while i'm at it so they both have new seals in them. this was the last thing i wanted to do right now to the car. but i'm going to be getting new tires soon and i don't wan to burn them up. plus i like being able to steer while i drive down the road.
i'm thinking if the parts are affordable i might rebuild the entire power steering system including the pump we will see though. it started leaking when i got to work today so the valve needs it bad.
well i got the power steering control valve rebuilt and it deffinatly is alot tigher and seems to work better. i have a bunch of pictures and when i get the oppertunity to i am going to write up a tech article on it.
I don't know how close that is to a Corvette set up, or an old fork lift, but I've seen an arm get broke and steering wheels go crazy at start up when people get into the valve of that style steering assembly. Word to the wise, never stick your arm through the steering wheel to start your car after reinstalling the steer cylinder/valve assemble. It can start slamming the steering from left to right. Nasty sight.
yeah i should type up that article i kinda forgot about it because about 2 or 3 weeks after i got the valve fixed i got into a car accident and it destroyed my 77 and haven't really thought about it. i still have all the pictures on my computer i'll just have to remember what i did.
