Hey Fellas, just wondering if anyone here has tapped the fuel tank for a second pick up.. Back in the day, a buddy tapped the center of the tank about a inch up from the bend.. he used this as his carb feed and the stock pick up for the nitrous.. Just curious if anyone had done this or just welded a sump to the stock tank..
ive done it for efi return lines. i will punch a hole with a nail then use a center punch to make it bigger to the point where i can get a tap to start. the folded in metal from using the punch leaves enough metal to be tapped. i will use red locktite to seal the threads. i think for a fuel pick up i would want the fitting lower than the bend or i would put some sort of pick up tube on the inside of the fitting going into the tank.
The idea of it being towards the rear of the slant, is that on accel the fuel will all slosh to the rear.. I was looking at the tank today... its pretty flat on the bottom... I though it had more of a slant going towards the rear... may the earlier tanks are more slanted??.. any way, I think the best way would be to just sump the tank... the thing now is how to wash it out to weld on it???
new replacement tanks are cheap enough through rock auto. just start with a fresh one that has no gas fumes or rust.
..pressure washer...to clean tank. I started with a new tank... you may want to install a drain plug at this time also. I used an O2 bung with an oil pan drain plug for the several I've done.. I coat the complete tank outside with... Rustbullit.com ... then the bottom half with a sealer called... turtle shell ...it's almost like a plastic coating...(can't find the brand) inside has... http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/380429129704?lpid=82 last but not least...installed a...late model E-fuel pump...for EFI.
As far as the sump do you guys make your own or just buy a all ready built on? What year is that pick up tube off of?
1. What tank are u using? 2. Does/looks like the fuel line exit tank on pass side? 3. What are those copper tubes in one pix nx to the tank?
