Following is a quote from "Swapping a late model 302 into a Maverick or Comet" - by Charlie Ping So when they redesigned the 302 block in 1981 they left off the pivot point for the older mechanical linkage. This is a problem if you are using the factory mechanical linkage. Total Performance sells a bracket for this purpose, but they are not difficult to fabricate. Here is a close up of mine (viewable in the top picture as well). I am looking for this bracket? Has anyone used this bracket, and if so, where did you purchase it? I have a 77 Maverick with automatic column shift and I a later 302 block.
You are incorrect, if the car has a column shift you still need the bracket because the linkage still ha a pivot point on the engine
You are correct. Somebody has manufactured a bracket and I am trying to find out where I can purchase one. The tech article said Total Performance has them, but when I Goggle Total Performance ( I live in Canada) I get a exercise site selling tread mills. I am way too old for that.
I have one on mine made up from 5.0 water pump back plate... No don't think I'd want to use this for a clutch pivot, but for auto column linkage it's fine...
I am sure any Mustang Parts Supply company has them Example www.mustangdepot.com Part number TRA-658-538
