Shift cable help

    It is dark here and i havent looked at it yet, but I know my shift cable has to be replaced.
    Can I get some feedback on if it is easy or hard to do. any special things i need to know?

    It is a 71 grabber (302).

    Rick, what kind of shifter does your car have? If it's the original Ford shifter then it doesn't have a cable...it has a rod. They don't generally cause problems so I'm assuming you have an a/m one. If it has an aftermarket shifter such as a B&M, then it most likely does have a cable but it's not that hard to change but you'll definitely have to be able to get under the car to get-r-done. It's not that hard...just be patient. The main thing will be getting the replacement cable. If it does happen to be a B&M, I've spotted them on eBay before at a pretty good price. Good luck.

    I know the guy I bought it from put a shift kit in the tranny. Im guessing this is the reason it has a cable now. I already have the cable... its just a matter of putting it in tomorrow. I just thought I would jump on here and see if it was pretty easy for a Novice (like myself) to do.

    Rick, it is easy to install. Hopefully you have instructions. Best advice I can give you is keep the cable away from exhaust and dont make any sharp turns in the cable. If it is too long, make it loop around towards the rear and then go towards the trans. Also, zip tie everything to keep it safe, neat and long lasting.

    I appriciate the advice Dan. The cable is in and working! it took a couple hours (novice work) but I did it. I dont like the way it comes through the floor though. it seems like when the shifter was put in, it was installed to close to the dash and the cable doesnt sit... i dont know... "nicely". Maybe im just not use to the way it sits, but I had to force it in some parts and I didnt like that.
    Do you think if i get an actual maverick floor shifter it would fit better, or would it be about the same thing? in there now is a performance one, but i dont like it too much.
