Ok so I just ordered wheel studs from summit and got them in the mail today. I looked online and the knurl diamter was said to be 620. Tried to put them in and they won't go in the rotor. Thinking maybe what I read was false or for drum brakes instead of disc. I also see a listing for a 570 diameter is this what I need to get? Really aggrivated I have to ship these back and wait even longer to roll the maverick around....ARGHHHHH Any help is as always appreciated. Really hoping summit will send some immediately while I send the wrong ones back but I doubt it.
Providing you have the right studs, the easiest way is to press them in. If you don't have a shop press you can also pull them in with an impact gun. Insert the stud up to the knurl and then on the other side of the rotor slip an oversized nut (3/4"?) over the stud to act as a spacer. Next, apply some never seize to prevent galling, and thread a lug nut on and tighten it up with the impact. Go a little bit at a time being careful until just before it seats. Seat them with a BFH. If you over tighten you run the risk of stripping the the threads on the nut and/or stud.
Anyone know the correct drill size for both sizes of knurls? I must of bought a complete set of .620 studs for my Maverick - they are too big for my 9 inch axles and it's too late to return them - easier to just drill out the axles and press them in and use them - thanks in advance
Have to bust out a micrometer I'm sure. You should need a hole about .614-.619 I know the Hole is suppose to be slightly smaller......obviously lol. I might just drill my rotors since returning mine are going to be a pain.
I've had mine for about 3 years now so returning them is out of the question - the length and thread size is good just the knurl diameter is different
Yeah measure the knurl diameter or just take it to a machine or speed shop. I just got quoted 60 bucks to drill two rotors and press in my studs. Front discs are .570 and my knurl is .620 so they will drill it to .615 and then press them in.
