I did a search and came up empty. I assumed I could use the carter carb from my 200 on the 250 that Im building. I did some checking and Im getting different part numbers for the 2 engine sizes. Can anyone confirm my thoughts on this?
Oh ok. Was hoping I could use my carb. The 250 had a carb on it, I drove the car with it. I guess I could rebuild it. It looks exactly like the one I have on the 200. Do they look the same on the outside? I say they look the same, they may be similar, I havent compared them side by side.
YF and RBS look like two different animals. The RBS has a bowl sticking out front whereas the YF has it built-in the carburetor. Here is the RBS.
That is not what I have. Im afraid they had a yf on that 250. I have a carb on 76 250 that is not a carter. It has a tag on it, I will have to see what it is. The only thing I dont like about it is all the junk on it. I like to keep it simple, so all that stuff will have to go. Thanks Jeff
Here is what I have. The following pics are of 3 carbs, 1 off a 200 and 2 -250s. I dont think the 250 carbs are original or even correct. The first two pics are from a 76-250. The number on the tag is hard to read, it's E0BE AMA. The lower row is A OC4. E0 is 1980 isn't it? That can't be right for a 76 model. The next pic is the tag of the carb that was on the 72-250. I am confident the engine is from a 75 Granada. It's tag reads D5DE AAA. The lower row is A 5 E 30. The last pic is of the previous listed carb (left) and my old 200 carb (right). The carb from the 200 is a reman and has no tag. There is another just like it on the car now. The tag that reads D5DE seems right for the 75 Granada but that carb is not right for a 250. (I think) If I have to use the one from the 76, I will. But I would rather use what I know is good and thats my current carb on the 200. Which looks exactly like the carb that came off the 75- 250. Ugh, somebody help me figure this mess out.
I think between the 200-250 engines, they are fairly interchangeable. When I was rebuilding my carburetor a while back I did a lot of reading on the many different carburetors that were used on the 200cid engines (all different models including the mustangs, econolines etc…). More than anything, I believe the smog laws forced Ford to make multiple changes between all the carburetors to comply with Federal requirements. My 2cents (for what it’s worth) if you have a known solid variable, use it. The CFM variances among those carburetors is negligible (IMHO). That way, when you go to fire her up the first time, you know what you have and can eliminate that variable if need be. You can always rebuild the best of the bunch with the best attributes at a later date or stick with what you have (if you are happy with it)!
That is one of the biggest reasons I want to use my carb. That is a great suggestion, I think I will go that route. I may order a new correct carb after I get through break in and tuning. Thanks Kevin
I figure it will run fine. I just dont want to leave any horsepower on the table. There will be a big difference coming from a 200 so I wont notice if anything is missing. Im going to start with mine then play around with the later model one and see if there is a noticable difference. I appreciate the help guys.
I bought a nos carb for my 250 six off e bay for 139.00 dollars still in the original ford wrapping . There are a lot of them on there . advance auto wanted 59.00 for a rebuild kit and most of them don't include the float anymore .t runs like a champ
