I'm thinking of moving to Texas. What are the emissions like around Houston? I'm thinking of moving to the northeast to northwest area. I'm wondering mostly about the 74 Maverick. Is it exempt, safety inspection? Right now I dont have to worry about emissions. I have also 97 truck so I know it will have to be tested. Thanks
What's in the safety test? I didn't have catalytic converters put on it when I had the exhaust redone.
From what I gather, there are no emission tests on cars older than 24 years old, however a yearly safety inspection is required: 1. Horn 2. Windshield Wipers 3. Mirror 4. Steering 5. Seat Belts 6. Brakes (system) (Parking - beginning with 1960 models) 7. Tires 8. Wheel Assembly 9. Exhaust System 10. Exhaust Emission System (beginning with 1968 models) 11. Beam Indicator (beginning with 1948 models) 12. Tail Lamps (2); (1) if 1959 model or earlier 13. Stop Lamps (2); (1) if 1959 model or earlier 14. License Plate Lamp (1) 15. Rear Red Reflectors (2) 16. Turn Signal Lamps (beginning with 1960 models) 17. Head Lamps (2) 18. Motor, Serial, or Vehicle Identification Number 19. 1988 & newer - inspect for window tinting or coating 20. Gas caps on vehicles 2-24 model years old. This is Harris County specific (Houston area). Surronding counties may vary slightly but most will use Harris County as a go-by. (related link: Texas Department Of Public Safety) Come on down. Texas would love to have you. -Rick
Thanks for the info. I guess I will have to add cats and fix the parking brake if I decide to leave tennessee
Move to BAMA and you won't have to worry about that stuff either! Won't have to worry about that white stuff ya'll get up there in the winter either! Well, maybe a little bit every now and then, but not like the way K-Town gets it!
You won't need the cats in Texas I don't think, my 72 he usally has me pull it in and cheaks the park bark ,lights & wiper and I'm done!
No cats required (or any other emissions) on cars older than 24 years old. Me thinks you're okay, except for the parking brake.
