Hey all happy to be on the forums!

I have some cash to burn on my 73 4 door comet 302 and am looking for some advice!

Was thinking of upgrading the exhaust which is in pretty bad shape (pretty much the only thing on the car that is rusted out) or replacing the 2 barrel motocraft with a 4 barrel edlebrock.

My friend said he'd sell me his edlebrock intake manifold super cheap if/when I upgrade .

Question is, which one should I deal with first? What's going to make the greatest impact on my performance?

Thank you for any info/experience! And merry Christmas!
    Will

Hello welcome to the forum and Merry Christmas to you as well.

As far as performance goes the intake would help more than the exhaust and probably a little cheaper, exhaust can get pretty expensive and takes some time to get installed so save you money and get it that done next. Hopefully your exhaust is not coming into the cab of the car if so get it fixed first.

If you have a column shift car do your research about header fitment because the shift linkage creates problems with long tube headers

    Thank you!

Yes it has a column shift, I have read it makes headers more complicated.

The exhaust has a small leak but it's not coming in the cab at all.

so, intake and carb over the exhaust?

Always the exhaust first. Any other gain you make will be minimal until the exhaust is freed up. Try running, but only exhaling through a straw. It doesn't matter how much air comes in ;)

BTW, from going through my catalogs, Dynomax and Dougs will work with column shift, and Hedmans will with a little fab work on the linkage.

    Agreed...

Assuming exhaust isn't dangerous, the only exception would be if you're getting a screaming deal on the carb & intake that won't be available in the future...

I agree w/ the exhaust crowd! The small hole will only get larger, exhaust fumes can have serious consequnces.

I used this exhaust kit. It took some minor clearancing of the rear footwells. Its for long tube headers but you should be able to fab something for shorty headers.

Fix the exhaust leak and drive it until you can find a decent 2-door to restify.
