Okay, I installed new roof rail and door weatherstrip from AutoKrafters. Now the doors are hard to close. I literally have to slam the $#!t out of them. Has anyone else experienced this? Will they eventually compress or soften over time? My doors used to be easy to close.
Not sure about the Mav/Comets but I replaced a full rubber set on an MGB and all the doors/hood/trunk were tuff to close for a while. I used to leave the doors open in the garage (turned off the cabin light). Made a huge difference in road noise or the lack there of, I would think this would be on the normal side. (I don't remember "slamming" them but they were way more stiff and took some force to close the doors.)
Is it different with one of the windows rolled down? Doors close smoothly on my '70 if a window is down but when they are rolled up, over coming the air pressure takes a pretty good effort to get the door closed all the way.
I remember puting new seals on my trunk an had to shut it hard for a while. They get used to a certain shape after while. I bought my set off ebay. I hope to install them when I move to Colorado soon.
mine were also hard to close, crappy product. I am greatfull there are companies reproducing stuff for our Mavericks, but if you are gonna do it, then why not do it right?
When I first picked up my Maverick, the then owner had just replaced all the weatherstripping, and it does take a little force to close the doors and trunk properly.
UMMMMM, what kind of adjustment would that be???? Especially since the guy has made all his gaps and alignment of the doors perfect...then he installs these w/strips and low and behold, now the door no longer fits, wont close and has to be slammed to close??
If you look at the old ones vs new they aren't made same where gaskets over lap... For that reason I believe they'll fit better reversed with the body gasket fitting into the door gasket rather than laying on top... I'm gonna try just that if I ever get this thing movin' on it's own power...
