Exactly! I had to weld in two feet of BOTH rocker panels on my 2006 Grand Caravan this spring... If it isn't the DOT trying to dissolve our cars as we drive them down the road, it's mother nature throwing brine all over the place. When there are high winds at work, I can't see out of the windows because they are covered with salt spray. All the equipment in our switchyard is covered with Sylguard (spelling) to reduce the effects of salt spray corrosion. Sorry, Craig: That car's SOLID!
That grill's got to go, and the turn signal lights are pointing up at the sky. Should be a fun project though.
Looks like it's a Comet GT! that would be the only Comet with Orange interior...the rest of the car is a mess!! Bumpers, grill, wrong hood...but you may be able to save it, more pictures!! And the codes off the B pillar sticker!! Orange was only available in 73 & 74, only in Grabbers and Comet GT's. If you don't keep the orange, I will buy any parts you don't use.
Would the GT have the chrome trim along the top of the fenders?? I have pictures of a non-GT Orange Comet from a junkyard I visited in Edmonton 13 years ago. EDIT: Added Picture
As far as I've been able to tell (from the trim books, and order forms), it was Grabber at GT only, unless they allowed some special orders...but I've never seen a Maverick with it, that wasn't a Grabber.
I'll get a pic of the codes, if they are still there. Since this is a project by definition, I don't mind the mixed up parts, my son likes it, and that's what really matters. On the parts, how bad would shipping to Ontario be? B Pillar codes:
I have a shipping address in Michigan, and I goto Florida yearly. Depending on your plans, goto www.martiautoworks.com, and order up a report, that will tell you what the car was new, and where it was sold. Looks like the car was shipped to the Cleveland district, when it was new..how far are you from Ohio?
He's still figuring out what he wants to do with it. I'm about 90 miles south of the Ohio border, but I think this came to KY with an Ohio kid attending college here.
I would drive a old car more then to save gas with an air bag. These cars they make now are over priced an thin metal. I'll take my chances with a seat belt before an air bag any day. The main thing is to be alert an keep your distance. Not every one does that today.
